Excerpt | Barabas Miklos - a citizen of Mitteleuropa in the early XIXth century Bucharest Born in the multicultural space of Transylvania, the painter Barabas Miklos (1810-1898) fulfilled his artistic training in Vienna, Budapest and Venice. He worked in Bucharest between 1831-1833, also in the Morava, Slovakia, ltaly (Venice, Bologna, Naples, Florence, Perugia, Rome), Germany, France and England: thus, his life and work illustrate the Central European multiculturalism. At the time, Bucharest knew a crucial moment in its development, linked both by the Oriental - Ottoman - traditions and the Occidental newly accepted influences. |
