Excerpt | The traits of a civilization, the interpretation of its coordinates and its main components, require a complex analysis of the most significant historical facts, the evolution of institutions, the embodiments of the art or literature and the evolution of custom and beliefs. In this context, developing alongside the main forms of social life, the Romanian traditional costume becomes one of the basic elements of this material culture. The Romanian traditional costume belongs to a complex domain of Romanian Folk Art. It is a living mirror, designed to decipher some important issues of ethnogenesis. Different from region to region, depending on climate, traditions, historical evolution, but also on social and economic conditions, the traditional costume has refined its structure and has developed, on its artistic side, from one era to another. Depending on the context in wich they are used, the traditional costume can be worn in celebration of special occasions, or day by day, bearing, conscious or unconscious, a wide set of attitudes, values and beliefs. |
