Excerpt | In order to understand how Romania was medicalized in the nineteenth century, it is advisable to talk not only about the laws, institutions and medical policies, but also about the people who conceived and created them. Who were they? What studies and experiences they had in the background? How did they manage to lead the health administration? What did they leave behind? At a certain time, one of the leaders of the modern Romanian health system was Dr. Ştefan Capşa. In this study, we will be talking about his work at the head of Romania’s health administration. This will not be a report, I will not do a bookkeeping of his successes and failures, as is often usual. I shall point to specific facts and circumstances, to a few friends and medical figures of his entourage, to the extent at wich they marked his life and assured his posterity. |
