Excerpt | Theodor Aman (1391-1891) was one of the pioneers of the Romanian modern painting and engraving. An ambitious artist, he fought to rise the artist’s social status, to found the Fine Arts School in Bucharest, he was directly involved in conceiving and building his own house which was turned into an interesting museum. The article presents some „invisible", fascinating aspects revealed by the art restorer s work, along with aspects concerning the way Aman’s paintings „grew old". By special techniques of investigation, the restorer can perceive various layers of paint, even cases when the painter changed his mind about some represented subject, different negative processes the works underwent, in time. |
