Istorie şi reconstrucţie: casele arhitecţilor Dobre Nicolau Şi T(h)oma Dobrescu

Excerpt The G-ral Berthelot - Stirbey Voda area în Bucharest was preferred by architect Dobre Nicolau (1821 -1897) and his son, Thoma Dobrescu (1862-1934), who owned some estates there. Unfortunately, their houses were demolished for the building of the Uranus-Berzei boulevard.
The present article remakes their houses according to archive documents, and virtually rebuilds the recently demolished edifices, in order to recuperate the memory of some emblematic monuments of Bucharest. Dobre Nicolau was the son of some ploughman, and he was to became one of the mast prolific entrepreneurs in Bucharest, during the 19th century. His career started in 1842. His name is connected with some of the monuments of Bucharst such as: the Domniţa Bălaşa Church, the Brâncoveanu Hospital, the „Filantropia "Hospital, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Loan House, the Boulevard Hotel, the Imperial Hotel, the Romanian Athenaeum a.s.o.
His son, Thoma Dobrescu was formed as an architect (having graduated the Fine Arts School in Paris, in 1890), and a lawyer (by 1900).
