Excerpt | The letters of the historian Paul Cernovodeanu (1927 - 2006), deputy-director of the "N. Iorga" History Institute, bring some information about his ownh istoriographic interests, as well as about the scientific life of the Romanian genealogists in the '90 s. The relationship Paul Cernovodeanu; a well-known historian, and Mihai Sorin Rădulescu, dates back to the rich activity of the Romanian Commission for Heraldry, Genealogy and Sphragistics in the '80 s, when this association of scholars was an island of alternative scientific culture and even of freedom of speech in the heavy atmosphere of dictatorship. Descendant of some Wallachian boyar families, Paul Cernovodeanu was very open to the genealogical research in general, as well as to the dialogue with a young colleague at the History Institute, who shared his interests. There is still a lot to do in preserving and bringing into light the documents concerning Romanian historians of the present. The future might show that neglecting these documents would bring a lot of damage to the history of the Romanian culture. (MS.R.) |
