Excerpt | "Bucur’s" Church is situated on a small fortified hill near the Radu Voda Monastery. The legend of the church goes that it was founded by a shepherd, Bucur, who, according to the same legend, was the founder of Bucharest. Many authors think this legend is true, so the church was considered the oldest in Bucharest. Yet, lately it was discovered that the church is, in fact, the chapel of the Radu Voda Monastery. This fact did not diminish its value; it just puts a new light on the historical truth. The church was the object of many restoring projects, most of them never put on end, from 1913 to 1940. The authority never cared about the fate of a valuable monument of our patrimony, although it should have been their direct concern. (D. C.) |
