Excerpt | Spiru C. Haret was an outstanding intellectual, active during the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. He was the first Romanian to acquire a doctor degree at the Sorbonne University, with a thesis concerning the instability of celestial bodies. Back in Bucharest, he was active as a teacher, politician (member of the Liberal Party), inspector, minister of education, sociologist, and a promoter of modern pedagogical elements, within traditional frames as a minister, he was involved in commemorating important events, in restoring monuments, and increasing the educational level of young and o/d as well. He was involved in important programs and activities concerning the education of the masses, mainly of people in the countryside. |
