Excerpt | The XVIIIth century Europe had several attempts to annihilate the Turkish power, by imposing the authority of Austria - a state in full ascension. The Austrian-Turkish wars went on during the whole 1606-1699 period. The authors' attention focuses upon the conflict between the two rival empires: the Ottoman and the Habsburgic, and, in the context, upon the Hungarian fight for independence. When, in 1685, the first part of the Austro-Turkish war was concluded, Emperor Leopold I celebrated his victory over Hungary by issuing a medal- presented in the paper. |
