Excerpt A special law was necessary, in order to have a new Palace built to shelter the Post Office headquarters in Bucharest. Architect Al. Săvulescu was designated to draw the project of the building; together with the director Ernest Sturza, the architect visited various post offices in Vienna, Munich, Zürich, Geneva, Paris, Bruxelles, Torino, Milan, Venice and Budapest. The exterior of the new building was inspired by the similar edifice in Geneva. Architect Al. Săvulescu's project was approved by a superior counsel in Romania and supervised by two professors from Paris, Ginain and Gerardet. The foundation stone was set on October 20th,
1894, in presence of King Carol I, of the Prime Minister Lascăr Catargiu, of other Ministers, of the Major of Bucharest, of other dignitaries. The building was inaugurated in 1901. The Post, Telegraph, Telephones Administration functioned there, up to 1972, when the National History Museum was settled in. Located on a surface of 10.710 sq.m, it was, by the beginning of the 20th century, one of the most impressing Post offices in Europe
