Excerpt The article remakes the history of a family of printers form Bucharest, who strongly influenced the printing activities during the first half of the Phanariote era (1716-1821). The first and mast important is the pope Stoica Iacovici. During 1715-1749 he was successively employed by all the printing centers that functioned in Bucharest: at the St. Sava monastery (1715-1719), at All Saints' Antim monastery (1719), at the Metropolitan Church(1728-1736, 1742-1743, 1749), at the Văcăreştilor school (1741) and at thePrincely school (1745-1746). At the same time, he manifested himself as editor, printing at his own expenses ten liturgical and teaching books for Romanian language priests. Pope Stoica Iacovici also printed under his care, corrected and prefaced several of the texts issued by himself. He also taught his brother, chancellor Radu Iacovici and his own sons, Ioan, Iordache şi Ghinea the skill of printing books. Radu Iacovici (1731-1743) and Iordache Stoicovici (1760-1767) both worked at the Metropolitan Bishop printing establishment, and Ioan (1743) and Ghinea (1767-1768) at the Buzau Bishopric printing establishment.
