Excerpt | "UNIVERSUL" - A Successful Bucharestan Daily Paper The foundation of one of the most popular daily papers during the interwar epoch in Bucharest (and in Romania) is tied to the beginnings of Luigi Cazzavilan's journalistic activity. First lieutenant Luigi Cazzavilan took part in the Ranco-Prussian war, then in the independence wars of the Italians, Serbians and Romanians. He started as a journalist during the 1877 - 1878 epoch, when he recorded the Romanian army's victories at Grivita and Plevna. Cazzavilan intended - and managed - to create a newspaper for the Romanians. His "Universul" was available at 7 o'clock a. m„ every day, at a low price. For this paper to be issued, the skill and abnegation of its founder were enough. The paper follows the paper's evolution throughout the years. |
