Excerpt | The Obor Fair and Market The most important market belonging to extra urban area of Bucharest was „Targul de Afara" Market, named since the XIXth century „Targul Mosilor" or „Obor" Market. Being known as a commercial market since the XVIIth century, as documents are attesting, later on it became a special market for necessary products destined to collective ceremonies in honor of the Dead, according to the Christian-Orthodox tradition. In the course of time „Targul Mosilor" has become the most important area for commercial deals between town and village as well as an occasion for feasts and visits of high rank officials. In the last decades, although the commercial market has been kept, by the authorities, the other significations have been erased. |
