Excerpt | Queen Maria of Romania - from Bran to Balcic In a poetical approach - worthy of the strange, singular and complex historical (and one might add ,,spiritual') presence of Queen Mary of Romania - the authoress sketches the links between the theatrical, artistically sensitive wife of King Ferdinand 1st, and two of her favorite places in Romania: the Bran castle and her residence al Balcic. Both dwellings still preserve the trace of Queen Mary's sense of decorativeness. Beyond her part in the international authorities recognition of the Romanian integrity, independence and territorial unity, at the well-known Peace Treatise in Paris ( 1919), Queen Mary of Romania was an outstanding promotor of fine arts, at a time when the Romanian National Style was still a battle to be won. |
