Excerpt Life in Bucharest has been marked not only by the hard times of work, but also by specific moments of organized leisure and collective feast. Among the holidays much appreciated by today’s Bucharestans, the 1st of May, is known generally due to the significance it has acquired since 1890, when it was celebrated for the first time as the Working Class Day - (the authoress reminds the events that brought to this significance. Yet, few people still recall the fact that, in older times, this day was dedicated to St. Jeremiah, and was called „Armindeni ". The way Bucharestans have been enjoying this free day, whatever its significance, has been much the same in the past as today: food, drinks and the urge to enjoy a green environment.
