Excerpt | In 1933, King Charles of Romania created a Cultural Foundation remarkable for its publishing activities organized on collections, libraries, and series. The Foundation published critic editions of Romanian classical writers; large syntheses of Romanian literature (G. Călinescu), history (C. C. Giurescu), geography (I. Simionescu); Gala Galaction's translation of the Bible; Mihai Eminescu's works under the care of Perpessicius; the works of Lucian Blaga, Tudor Vianu; the Foundation also ran the „Royal Foundation Magazine", and awarded annual prizes to young writers. The Foundation was officially suppressed in August 1943. |
