| Excerpt | The matter of street denomination has permanently been an issue of considerable interest, from the historians' point of view, as it refers not only to the development of one place or another, but also to its political context, as each political regime tries to organize the communitarian space in order to better control, communicate or express certain political values. The interesting aspect of the streets denomination consists in their expressing the political priorities and ideologies of the ruling forces, and, in this respect, Bucharest is no exception. Naming streets after historical events or names of personalities represents a frequent mean of modelling the urban space of the community, according to the dominant political ideas. |
