Excerpt | The inns of Bucharest have represented a reference point in the development of the local economy but also in regard of the evolution of the urban architectural styles. Until the first hotel was opened in Bucharest, in 1828, keeping an inn represented a prosperous activity, in a town like Bucharest, crossed by numerous tradesmen and various other categories of foreign visitors. The toponymy and the urbanistic structure itself were influenced by the presence of inns. The article sketches a brief history of these institutions typical of the 17th, 18th and early 20th century Bucharest. |
