Excerpt | Doctor Carol Davila (Carlos Antonio Francesco d" Avila) was a noted personality in the history of the Romanian society of the 19th century. Of uncertain origins, he studied in Germany and France - doctor in medicine, in Paris (1853). Established in Bucharest, he organized the medical life. He founded the Medicine Faculty; he laid the bases of pharmaceutics and of the veterinarian education. He also founded numerous societies and associations; he founded the Botanical Gardens of Bucharest, together with the Austrian Ulrich Hoffmann. He was one of the most outstanding and astonishing active personalities among the true founders of modem Romania. |
