Excerpt | The Christian life on the Romanian territory dares from the earliest centuries. The oldest inscriptions and objects discovered date from the VIth c. Archaeological data and written informations confirm the existence of monasteries in the early XIVth century, throughout the whole Romanian Plain. The oldest monasteries in the central part of this area are Bolintinu and Snagov (XIVth c.). Other six monasteries were risen during the XIV - XVth c.: Strugalea, Tânganu, Glavacioc, Căscioarele, Babele, Comana. Most of them were founded by the local rulers. |
