| Excerpt | Many important monuments of Bucharest were removed and often completely destroyed during the communist era. Some of them disappeared completely; others could be recuperated and restored. A fortunate case is that of the monument dedicated to the Romanian politician Lascăr Catargiu (1823-1899), due to the French sculptor Marius -Jean- Antonin Mercié, inaugurated in 1907. The article follows the story of the monument s removal, recuperation, completion and re-installation. |
